Course Description

In this course, you will learn to proficiently use the advanced features of Word 2016 for document content management and advanced formatting – critical skills for those in roles such as editors, project managers, business information workers and educators.

Learners will create and manage professional multi-page documents for a variety of specialised purposes and situations. Learners will customise their Word 2016 environments to meet project needs and to enhance productivity. Examples of expert-level documents include a business plan, a research paper, a specialised brochure and a mass mailing.

We provide a one-day intensive, supported learning programme. The course is broken down by our expert tutor and will provide you with a highly interactive learning experience in our Horsham Training Centre, supported with eBooks (bring a memory stick!). Our range of Microsoft Office courses are available for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels ensuring that the learning you take away is in keeping with your day-to-day requirements. For larger groups, WDR can arrange training at your premises, or another local venue. Please speak to our team for further booking details.

What you'll be doing on the course

Module 1

Manage documents and templates, including custom styles, macros and building blocks to other templates. Manage document versions and compare/combine multiple documents. Link external content and enable macros in documents. Prepare documents for review with editing restrictions and password protection. Also learn about managing document changes with tracking, locking/unlocking and comment management.

Module 2

Perform advanced editing and formatting by using find & replace, wildcards and special characters. Find and replace formatting and styles and set advanced page and layout setups. Create paragraph and character styles and learn how to simply modify existing styles.

Module 3

Learn how to create advanced references and mark index entries, as well as creating and updating indexes. Manage references, customise table of contents and insert/modify captions. You will also cover the management of forms, fields and mail merge options such as adding custom fields, modifying fields and much more.

Module 4

Create and modify building blocks, macros and controls by creating quick parts, organising simple macros and configure content controls. You will also learn how to create custom style sets and templates before preparing documents for internationalisation and accessibility. This includes configuring language options, adding alt-text to elements and managing global content standards and areas with multiple options.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who wants to further enhance their skills with word processing would benefit from this course. A willingness and desire to learn is essential to be able to grasp the intermediate concepts of word processing. Average keyboard skills and moderate typing speed are desirable.

We recommend that learners take both our basic & intermediate level course before considering advanced if they are not already very proficient in Microsoft Word.
