Apprenticeship Levy

Helping you plan for the introduction of the Leadership and Management Apprenticeships in April 2017.

Apprenticeship qualifications are changing in 2017 and under the new rules there will be more funding available for employers to use their levy funding pot to invest in Leadership and Management skills. Employers can now develop and train their talent through work-related assignments. These new Leadership and Management Apprenticeships combine on-the-job and theory-based Leadership training that develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across all levels.

WDR are able to support you with reviewing your Leadership and Management development strategy to simplify and streamline your management of Apprenticeships with our Managed Apprenticeship Service. We will work with you as employers to design and customise your Apprenticeship Programme, so that it addresses internal training requirements and aligns with the new appropriate Apprenticeship Standard.

We will take away the hassle of managing the Apprenticeship Levy process and leave you free to measure the effective outcomes. Our Apprenticeship Portal provides a single platform for the delivery, tracking and management of the Qualification Standard. 


Providing the learner a visual map of all learning units, either through virtual learning, classroom or on-the-job development. This will enable the learner to connect to each individual unit and monitor their own progress and workload.


Assessing uploaded evidence logs to support the learning. This will enable the assessors and learners to communicate with each other throughout the process.


Providing all the information required to support managers and assessors to evidence workflow and achievements.

Key Facts:

  • All organisations with a payroll in excess of £3 million per year will be required to pay 0.5% of their total payroll into the Apprenticeship Levy. An allowance of £15,000 will be offset against the Levy payment.
  • Employers in England will be able to reclaim their Apprenticeship Levy contributions as digital vouchers to pay for training apprentices. This voucher system will not apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • The Government has announced that unspent funds in an employer's digital account will expire after 24 months. So for example funds entering the account in May 2017 will expire in May 2019, unless the employer uses them.
