Leading UK Energy Company use the WDR fully customisable LMS

About the company
This Energy Company is one of the largest in the UK and is part of one of Europe's largest energy groups. They generate around 6% of the UK's electricity and deliver electricity to 7.9 million customer homes and businesses through their public networks.

The situation
The company employs tens of thousands of staff.  The training co-ordination team is responsible for supporting staff in the UK. They have several training centres, a number of trainers and several hundred courses.  There is a central team who are responsible for the administration of the training centres, courses and trainers.

The client was using multiple spreadsheets to manage their training and they were regularly filing certificates and qualification documents into filing cabinets. This was becoming an enormous challenge for them in resourcing and time. The organisation had a requirement to select a supplier that could offer a comprehensive training management system to provide front end functionality to branch staff and a robust administration management functionality to the training co-ordinators and schedulers.

The WDR solution
WDR were delighted to propose the provision of a customised version of the WDR Learning Management System (LMS) to meet specific organization requirements.  The WDR LMS is a robust web based application which has been designed to streamline and automate the administration of training.  The system was tailored to provide the company training co-ordinators and schedulers with fully automated on-line administration and management tools.

Administration users and Managers now have full access to all employee requests for training and schedules for each course.  They have access to change employee details within this system and to run self-service reports from a wide selection.  Managers can also report on training records of their employees.  Courses can be selected from on-line catalogues using filtering by type and category to present relevant choices.

The LMS is capable of communicating with staff in a number of ways, including email, text messaging (SMS) and postal mail.  For example a line manager may be emailed to indicate that they should be carrying out an appraisal process while a member of staff, who works primarily in the field, will be sent a text message to remind them that they are due to attend a course and joining instructions will be sent to them by email or by post to their home address.  Each individual registered on the LMS can be individually configured with communications (notification) references to indicate how the system should contact them.

WDR also provided an automated on-line pre and post course evaluation process.  This presents electronic forms for completion by staff either directly or, for staff without Internet access, via their line manager, with automated reminders to ensure they obtain the best response levels.   Pre and Post course data is available to their training co-ordinators and training managers via the WDR LMS for reporting.

The result
The LMS has been live with WDR since Summer 2008.  By adopting the Learning Management System they have found not only considerable efficiencies but also a more reliable central repository for training information allowing them to focus on more strategic issues in Learning & Development.
